Tiger Woods – 12.9.09

Passing along this note sent out by Bro. James yesterday afternoon:

1. No one enjoys seeing an idol fall more than I do. It sickens me to see Americans giving the adoration that should belong to Jesus Christ to mortals, for any reason.

2. The God who said, Thou shalt not commit adultery, also said Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. Why anyone is surprised that a man who curses the name of Jesus Christ over a poorly hit golf ball would be unfaithful to his wife is a mystery to me. He is what he is; an unsaved man.

3. The jokes are funny. I've told some and laughed at many.

4. That being said, can we not all see that the only possible way a man who has gained the whole world could ever come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior would be to watch that world collapse. Were there ever a chance that a Zach Johnson or other born again man who is an acquaintance of Woods could reach him with the gospel it would be now.

5. What if all of us who are saved would pray for the soul of this man and his wife. Jesus died for him. He may be ready to listen to a message of hope and peace at such a time as this. If he is ever going to get saved it will be through all this ugly mess he has made. Please join me in praying for his salvation.

Some additional thoughts:

1. Only Jesus Christ can satisfy. If what Tiger Woods has achieved and obtained isn't enough to satisfy, why waste your life chasing the very same things (the popularity, the fame, the money, the model, the mansion)?

2. The whole world lieth in wickedness (1 John 5:19). He might lose some endorsements. He might lose some fans. He might become the brunt of some jokes for a while. But at the end of the day, he will still be worshipped and adored. All the sports writers I've read could care less about what he did, they're just mad he's not sharing the gory details. I even heard the "Rev." Al Sharpton condemned Woods, not for what he did, but for leaving out black women when he cheated on his wife. When not spilling your guts in front of the media and a seeming failure to embrace "diversity" are sins and adultery isn't, you know your nation is beyond hope.

Some relevant scriptures to consider:

Matthew 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Proverbs 27:20 Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

1 Timothy 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

Hebrews 13:4
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Numbers 32:23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

Luke 12:2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Hebrews 7:25
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Philippians 2:15
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

  1. Tiger Woods is just like any other human being walking on the earth. He has a weakness, and he got entangled in that weakness. Many "men of God" have been entangled in the same mess. I wonder how many so-called "Christians" are throwing rocks at Tiger, probably the same group in John 8:3. That group thought they were "Christians" too

  2. if you spend the amount of time in prayer for Mr. Woods that you spend watching the Golf Channel, much would be accomplish. Or are you in the group of men that were in the Garden with the Lord, sleeping instead of praying? TOUCHE!!!

  3. 1. "Tiger Woods is just like any other human being walking on the earth." The fact that we're all sinners does nothing to negate the fact that adultery (or any other sin) is wrong and God will judge those who participate in it.

    2. "He has a weakness, and he got entangled in that weakness." Tiger Woods is not a victim. He is a man with a sinful nature (like the rest of us) who CHOSE to cheat on his wife.

    3. By the grace of God, I would never condone adultery because it was committed by a "man of God" as opposed to a celebrity athlete. The "men of God" who have entangled THEMSELVES in the same mess need the same thing as Tiger Woods does - PRAYER that they will REPENT.

    4. You are ignorant. The men in John 8 (who didn't throw any rocks) were anything but Christians - they didn't follow Christ, they wanted to kill Him. No wonder you posted anonymously.

    1. Did you read points 4 & 5? One of the main reasons for the post was to request prayer for Tiger Woods and his family, that they might come to know Jesus Christ as Savior.

    2. Your assumption that I waste my life watching TV is telling, in light of Romans 2:1.

  5. nevertheless they were people who thought they were "religious" in John 8:3, just like some of the clowns we have in the "religious" circles today. If all the so-called "Christians" in the USA were praying for Mr. Wood salvation, we would probably see the Lord moving on his life in convicting. But as always they are only interested in themselves!!!

  6. in John 8:6 it says in the King James 1611 if you have one, "that they might have to accuse him" it doesn"t say anything about killing Him. They sought to entrap Him in His judgment of the maiden. No where in scripture does it say anyone who is entrapped is subject to death.

  9. to anonymous, just wanted you to know that I am praying for you. You seem like you have alot of hurt and bitterness inside you. I am hoping that you will give it all to the Lord and that you will allow Him to give you a heart of love. He is able to do so, but you must allow Him. Ask Him to give a rejoicing heart, one that will change everything in your life.

  10. walk a mile in another man's shoes, brother because you speak as if you do not know the full weight of your own sins. as an inner city cop of 12 years, i've seen it all and EVERY man is subject to fall, especially when you dont have any idea of the struggles/battles they are dealing with and/or what the pain they may be running from. rather than zing scriptures around, give grace and give it more abundantly.

  11. The group in John 8:3 were scribes and Pharisees, not Christians.

Jesus told the woman to "..go, and sin no more."

    Skunkeye is a funny name.

I heard Brother James say in a sermon once; "This is how a world that spends it's life sitting in front of a television views an expression of biblical Christianity".

  12. Proverbs 16:6 By mercy AND TRUTH iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.

When I fall into sin, I need Christian brothers and sisters who will give me grace but will not excuse my sin. By God's grace, I hope they zing a few scriptures my direction - because that's what I need.

Psalm 119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to THY WORD.

  13. Dear Ann Onimus

Let me be sure I have this right. You condemn a preacher for correctly applying the word of God and for asking prayer for a man who is on his way to hell. You defend a cursing, proud, adulterer. You claim to be representing Jesus. It is no wonder our churches and our country are in such a deplorable condition. Hey David, keep sticking up for righteousness and ignore people like Ann who stick up for adulterers. Ann probably thinks Jesus was mean because He warned people they were going to a burning hell.

  14. let's move on from Mr. Wood's alleged fall. There is so much more to learn in the Bible than the alleged fall of this man. If you aren't praying for him than you need to shut your mouth about him. This includes Pharisee pastors and sunday school teachers.

  15. AMEN brother. Truth is a shining light and it hurts those in darkness. Men want to stay in the darkness and you are Standing for God. Keep up the good work.
