Absolute Surrender

Matthew 22:20-21 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

Talk about a statement on absolute surrender – Render unto God the things that are God’s.  And what isn’t?  There isn’t anything that isn’t God’s.  Everything we have, everything we enjoy is simply a gift from a gracious God.  And according to Jesus, it’s only right that we turn around and give it all back to him.

Here are some things the Bible specifically states belong to the Lord:

Exodus 19:15, all the earth
Job 41:11, whatsoever is under the whole heaven
Psalm 50:12, the world and the fullness thereof
Song of Solomon 2:16; 6:3, us (as the Lord’s beloved)
Haggai 2:8, our silver and our gold (not a mite would I withhold…)
Romans 12:19, vengeance

Here are a couple things specifically stated that we ought to render to the Lord:

Psalm 56:12, praise
Psalm 116:12-14, prayers
Psalm 116:12-14, the performance of vows

And here’s an extra verse to the well-known hymn “I Gave My Life for Thee,” from a Lutheran hymnal:

Oh, let thy life be given, Thy years for Me be spent,
World's fetters all be riven, And joy with suffering blent!
I gave Myself for thee: Give thou thyself to Me.
I gave Myself for thee: Give thou thyself to Me.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
