Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23-24)
What is interesting to me about this passage is the fact that David didn't have to ask God to know his heart or his thoughts for it to be so…God already knew David's heart, he already knew his thoughts. And He knows ours as well (see Proverbs 24:12). But what we have here is an invitation for God to reveal to us the wickedness of our hearts and incline our hearts unto righteousness.
Can you say that this Psalm is an expression of your heart's desire? Are you willing to invite God to search your heart and rebuke everything that's wrong and correct whatever needs correction? Is your heart OPEN to the scrutiny of God's eye? Or is there any wicked way God has already revealed to you, but you're unwilling to let it to?
Again, the fact is that He sees and knows our heart condition anyway. The question is whether or not we have a desire for Him to share that information with us so we can align ourselves with his will.
Now, if that is your hearts desire, then open up your Bible and read it. Why? For the word is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do (Hebrews 4:12-13).
God bless!
