Greetings and a good day to one and all.
Let's consider briefly the "united heart." Psalm 86:11 (a verse we all should know thanks to Bro. Runyon) says, Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.
A united heart is the key to a CONSISTENT Christian life. The Christian who gives God half his heart, but reserves the rest for himself will be a frustrated Christian. The Christian who opens the door of his heart to the Lord, but keeps a dark little corner closet locked up and out of sight will never know the fullness of the victory God has for us.
James wrote that a double minded man is unstable in all his ways (James 1:8). Jesus said that no man can serve two masters because he'll end up hating one and loving the other – so seek first the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:24-33). Paul prayed that the Thessalonians would be wholly sanctified unto God (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
Our hearts must be united to that we can…
LOVE the Lord with ALL our heart (Matthew 22:37-38).
PRAISE the Lord with ALL our heart (Psalm 86:12; Psalm 111:1; Psalm 138:1).
SEEK the Lord with ALL our heart (Psalm 119:10).
TRUST the Lord with ALL our heart (Proverbs 3:5).
OBEY the Lord with ALL our heart (Psalm 119:34, 69).
May we pray the prayer of Psalm 86 from our hearts to the Lord today – Lord, unite my heart to fear thy name! And may God grant it.
